I bought this unit two years ago from Amazon. He came with a 500 GB Seagate Barracuda 7200.11 installed and I bought a duplicate of the second bay. It has always been during the preceding two years and completed an easy job as a file server in a small home network (5 machines, for both PC and Mac). No complaints at all until a few days ago, when the response off-line and was not in the way of transfer of large files (~ 250 GB) NAS from a network machine.Could not turn off, then had to get the plug. The Board of troubleshooting more believable that I found online was to examine the hard drive before any further steps, like restoring the factory settings. I used a USB to SATA drives and check the hard fact was in Bay 2 toast (no SMART test for read errors, even if the SMART status good reading). The NAS rebooted fine with good drive in Bay 1 and Bay 2 empty. All data were intact and legible. My only complaint is thatcame with a Seagate, a good reputation, because (many guests on the disc, seen much less service than my two years), and the way in which the disk failure was not handled gracefully. I declare that I have not configured the device can not be optimal disk (I had not updated the firmware, or set any advanced configurations – might be put in hand and started copying files, and as always I never had to worry about). I'm still troubleshootingdone to find out what the device can do and have done so if the disk failed. I lost no data, but I wonder if it could have been worse if he had read during a write operation instead of a "happening.

Update: Review of logs I see that the NAS hard drive started reporting errors over six weeks before the hard drive otherwise. If I had to send the device to configure alerts me, I received an e-mail or text message and have a troubleshooting easier. While allreplacement of hard drives, I had a hard compartment freeze button issue and stick hard. It was just a very useful thread, see the ReadyNAS forum. While it appears that this is a design flaw, and is a term Re-disign with a small violin, and some silicone grease I was able to resolve without problems.
